Using disposable solid-phase microextraction (SPME) to determine the freely dissolved concentration of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in sediments

Abstract(#br)Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are brominated flame retardants (BFRs). The ubiquity and persistence of PBDEs in sediment have raised concerns over their environmental fate and ecological risks. Due to strong affinity for sediment organic matter, environmental fate and bioavailability of PBDEs closely depend on their phase distribution. In this study, disposable polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) fiber was used to derive the freely dissolved concentration ( C free ) of PBDEs in sediment porewater as a measurement of bioavailability.

Volatile compounds of basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) were extracted with solid phase microextraction(SPME) and analyzed with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). TwoSPME fiber coatings, Polydimethylsiloxane/Divinylbenzene (PDMS/DVB, 65 μm) and Carbowax/Divinylbenzene (CW/DVB, 65 μm) were evaluated in order to compare the extraction ofcomponents. Among the 25 volatile compounds detected were phenylpropanoids, monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, esters, and aldehydes.

A direct immersion solid phase microextraction (DI-SPME) method was developed for the analysis of dentin monomers in saliva. Dentine monomers, such as triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA), urethane dimethacrylate (UDMA) and 2,2-bis-[4-(2-hydroxy-3-methacryloyloxypropoxy) phenyl]-propane (Bis-GMA), have a high molecular weight and a low vapor pressure. The polydimethylsiloxane/divinylbenzene (PDMS/DVB) fiber with a medium polarity was employed for DI-SPME, and 215 nm of detection wavelength was found to be optimum in the chromatogram of HPLC measurement.

Sorptive extraction techniques in sample preparation for organophosphorus pesticides in complex matrices.

Organophosphorus pesticides (OPPs), widely known as persistent organic pollutants, are the most popular contaminants in agriculture products in developing countries. The determination of OPPs in complex matrices, such as food, environmental and biological samples, usually requires extensive sample pretreatment. This review focuses on the sorptive extraction techniques applied as sample pretreatment for OPPs in complex matrices, including solid-phase extraction (SPE) and solid-phase microextraction (SPME).

Analysis of Volatile Compounds in Perilla frutescens var. acuta by Solid Phase MicroextractionPerilla frutescens var. acuta;volatile compound;SPME;This study was conducted to find the appropriate fiber for extraction of volatile compounds from Perilla frutescens var. acuta. by solid phase microextraction (SPME). Two SPME fiber, carboxen/polydimethylsiloxane (CAR/PDMS) and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) were used to determine the selectivity of the fibers to the different flavor compounds present in the Perilla frutescens var. acuta.
