Abstract(#br)Silicones have innumerable applications in many areas of life. Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), which belongs to the class of silicones, has been extensively used in the field of analytical chemistry owing to its favourable physicochemical properties. The use of PDMS in analytical chemistry gained importance with its application as a stationary phase in gas chromatographic separations.

Abstract(#br)Herein we describe an economical method to fabricate a transparent superhydrophobic surface that uses grid patterning, and we report on the effects of grid geometry in determining the wettability and transparency of the fabricated surfaces. A polymer casting method was utilized because of its applicability to economical manufacturing and mass production; the material polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) was selected because of its moldability and transparency. PDMS was replicated from a laser textured mold fabricated by a UV nanosecond pulsed laser.

Abstract(#br)We proposed and demonstrated a compact, simple-to-construct and highly sensitive optical fiber sensor capable of simultaneously measuring refractive index (RI) and temperature (T) based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect. The device structure consists of a single mode fiber (SMF) spliced between two multimode fibers where whole SMF was coated with chromium and gold. The thicknesses of the layers of chromium and the gold were 5 nm and 30 nm, respectively.

Abstract(#br)Fabrication of microscale surface structures is a promising method for controlling the surface wettability of materials. Herein, the micropillar and microhole arrays of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) were fabricated through a soft lithography process, and the modified wettability was investigated. Using PDMS samples with different degrees of crosslinking, a PDMS–PDMS pattern transfer was achieved, and the microhole and micropillar arrays were obtained from a single master substrate.

Abstract(#br)High density gold nanostructures are grown by thermal deposition on flat and nanostructured polymeric templates by exploiting the extraordinarily low wettability of Au on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). Undulated PDMS templates are fabricated by replica molding process (REM) on “masters” prepared by defocused Ion Beam Sputtering (IBS). Closely packed and laterally disconnected Au nanostructures are grown at grazing incidence on the PDMS replica templates exploiting the shadowing instability.

Abstract(#br)The phase equilibria and saturated fluid properties of CO 2 + PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane) systems were measured to investigate suitability for future hydrodynamic experiments. Two PDMS fluids graded at 100 cSt (M w = 14 300, M z = 22 000, Đ M = 1.59) and 200 cSt (M w = 18 400, M z = 53 000, Đ M = 4.72) were selected. Saturation pressure, and hence phase transition pressure, was determined for 1–70 wt% PDMS in CO 2 at 313–353 K using the variable volume view cell method (SynVisVar).

Abstract(#br)This study explored a click method of using filter paper (FP) and a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) polymer coating solution to prepare a cost-effective volatile organic compound (VOC) preconcentrating sampler. This is the first report of successfully cross-linking a hydrophobic polymer with cellulose in filter paper via a sol-gel method and its application to the preconcentration of headspace VOCs.

A novel frequency reconfigurable microstrip patch antenna is proposed, which uses liquid metal alloy and highly extensible elastomer as a radiant patch and a dielectric substrate, respectively. The liquid metal used is eutectic gallium-indium alloy(EGaIn), consisting of 75% gallium and 25% indium. The elastomer used is polymethylsiloxane(PDMS), and the tensile quantity of PDMS under three ratios is measured by experiment. When the mass ratio is 10:1, PDMS has lower viscosity and better stretchability.
