Abstract(#br)A homogeneous distribution of inorganic fillers and their integration with polymer matrix is the primary challenge for advancement of mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) in pervaporation. Due to well-defined structure and multi-functional groups attached to the apex silicon atoms, polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) provides a high possibility of good compatibility with diverse polymer matrix at the molecular level.

Abstract(#br)High temperature vulcanized (HTV) silicone rubber (SR) specimens with a clean surface or a surface covered by a contamination layer were exposed to the corona discharge generated by a needle-plate electrode system. Hydrophobicity loss and recovery processes were investigated during and after corona exposure. In addition, physicochemical analyses on the specimens were carried out using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS).

Abstract(#br)The concept and synthesis approach for planar Compliant Fluidic Control Structures (CFCSs), monolithic flexible continua with embedded functional pores, is presented in this manuscript. Such structures are envisioned to find application in biomedicine as tunable microfluidic devices for drug/nutrient delivery. The functional pores enlarge and/or contract upon deformation of the compliant structure in response to external stimuli, facilitating the regulated control of fluid/nutrient/drug transport.

摘要\n由于日照和自热造成的温度升高,会对太阳能电池的性能和可靠性造成不利影响。在本工作中,我们用理论计算来鉴定化学性质稳定、价格低廉的聚二甲基硅氧烷( PDMS )可以作为冷却柔性薄膜太阳能电池的高效热辐射源。研究表明,在4 ~ 26 µ m的整个红外区,200 µ m厚的平面PDMS层能够实现0.9以上的高发射率。在8 ~ 13 µ m范围内,通过在表面引入金字塔结构,可进一步将发射率提高到近乎一致,环境辐射可忽略不计。根据计算的辐射冷却速率和实际的功率转换效率,我们发现金字塔结构的PDMS层可以显著降低有机、钙钛矿和微晶( µc ) -Si柔性太阳电池的温度,分别降低11℃、12℃和16℃。这项工作可能对高性能、可靠的柔性太阳电池的设计提供重要的指导。

Abstract(#br)Bio-butanol is an important aspect for development of renewable energy. Currently, it remains challenging for developing highly permeable and selective composite membranes to efficiently recover butanol produced in biomass fermentation process. In this work, we fabricated polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) into thin and defect-free composite membranes by using porous PVDF as the substrate. The formation of PDMS membrane layer was finely controlled by optimizing the substrate pore size and casting solution viscosity.

Abstract(#br)The ongoing conflict against terrorism has resulted in an escalation of blast-induced traumatic brain injuries (bTBI) caused by improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The destructive IEDs create a blast wave that travels through the atmosphere. Blast-induced traumatic brain injuries, attributed to the blast wave, can cause life-threatening injuries and fatalities. This study aims to find a surrogate brain material for assessing the effectiveness of head protection systems designed to mitigate bTBI. Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is considered as the surrogate brain material.

Abstract(#br)A novel microfluidic chip employing power-free polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) femtoliter-sized arrays was developed for the detection of low concentrations of protein biomakers by isolating individual paramagnetic beads in single wells. Arrays of femtoliter-sized wells were fabricated with PDMS using well-developed molding techniques. Paramagnetic beads were functionalized with specific antibodies to capture the antigens. These antigens were labeled with enzymes via conventional multistep immunosandwich approach.

Abstract(#br)This study investigates the triboelectric energy harvesting phenomenon of falling water droplets on a novel nanocomposite surface, chemically synthesized from reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) polymer. The prime concern of this work is to synthesize such a triboelectric nanocomposite film, which will pose optimized hydrophobicity along with ameliorated dielectric properties through proper optimization of filler quantity inclusion in PDMS matrix.

Abstract(#br)In cardiac tissue engineering (TE), in vitro models are essential for the study of healthy and pathological heart tissues in order to understand the underpinning mechanisms. In this scenario, scaffolds are platforms that can realistically mimic the natural architecture of the heart, and they add biorealism to in vitro models. This paper reports a novel and robust technique to fabricate cardiovascular-mimetic scaffolds based on Parylene C and Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). Parylene C is employed as a mask material for inducing hybrid and non-hybrid micropatterns to the PDMS layer.
