Abstract(#br)The incorporation of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as fillers in polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) membranes was investigated. Mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) with MOFs [Cu 3 (BTC) 2 ], MIL-47, MIL-53(Al) and ZIF-8 as dispersed phases were synthesized and characterized. The membranes were applied in solvent resistant nanofiltration (SRNF), more in particular in the separation of Rose Bengal (RB) from isopropanol. The membranes showed increased permeance but lower retention compared to unfilled membranes.

n-Hexane induced swelling of thin PDMS films under non-equilibrium nanofiltration permeation conditions, resolved by spectroscopic ellipsometry

Abstract(#br)A nondestructive technique is presented for in-situ analysis of solvent induced membrane swelling. The technique is based on spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE) and allows simultaneous measurement of membrane film thickness and solvent sorption. The attainable experimental conditions are only limited by the test cell (≤473.15 K, ≤20 MPa) and by far exceed those encountered in typical solvent resistant nanofiltration (SRNF) applications.

Polymer-Ti 3 C 2 T x composite membranes to overcome the trade-off in solvent resistant nanofiltration for alcohol-based system

Abstract(#br)Solvent resistant nanofiltration (SRNF) technology is an energy efficient and environmentally friendly alternative to purify alcohol-based mixtures, but there exists a challenge in overcoming the trade-off between membrane flux and rejection. Herein, as the representative of the emerging family of MXenes, Ti 3 C 2 T x nanosheets with abundant –OH groups are chosen as nanofillers to prepare SRNF composite membrane after being incorporated into two typical polymer matrixes: hydrophilic polyethyleneimine (PEI) and hydrophobic polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS).
